Title: Attractor Dynamics and Neural Algorithms: towards a distributed theory of Cortical Information Processing

Abstract: Structured behaviors are thought to rely on distributed neural computations across brain regions. Using a combination of modeling and neural recordings with targeted perturbations, we investigated how attractor dynamics shape behaviorally-relevant brain states, enabling communication and coordination across cortical areas. Our findings highlight how these dynamics govern flexible motor timing and the integration of information across the brain. Neurological disruptions—such as those caused by SYNGAP1 mutations—can break down these processes, affecting communication between brain regions. Our findings shed light on the role of attractor dynamics in distributed cortical processing and how they support coordinated behavior.
